October 16-19, 2025 Harrison Hot Springs
Deadline to Apply: 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2025
The Pacific Region is excited to offer a series of educational courses designed to empower members, strengthen our union, and provide essential skills. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn, engage, and build solidarity!
Health and Safety
In this course, we want to bring health and safety back to its political beginnings. CUPW health and safety representatives will explore the different interests of the employer and the union in health and safety. Participants will practice ‘facing management’ and discuss ways to mobilize members around health and safety issues. At the same time, they will develop the skills and knowledge they need to feel confident in participating with management on joint health and safety committees.
Basic Steward Course
Stewards are the backbone of the union. The aim of this course is to provide new stewards with knowledge and confidence. Topics include: the roles of the steward, how to investigate and file a grievance, communication skills, shop steward rights, the steward as organizer/mobilizer, and key provisions of the collective agreement.
*Note this course is for new stewards
Mental Health in the Workplace
This course will build awareness about the continuum of mental health in the workplace, explore the impact of different forms of stigma towards people living with mental health problems and discuss different support and accommodation measures. Participants will determine actions and strategies that can be taken to support psychological health and safety in the workplace.
LCRMS – Know Your Route
This course explains the fundamentals of the Letter Carrier Route Measurement System (LCRMS), with a focus on the factors used to update routes. Participants examine the different time values that determine a route and review how they are calculated. They look at restructures, volume counts and the parts of the collective Agreement that relate to LCRMS. Most important, they learn how to verify time values to ensure they reflect the letter carriers work and what to do if there are discrepancies.
*Note priority will be given to Locals who are currently on the list to be restructured.
